What a retrograde Mercury means in Vedic astrology
A retrograde planet is called vakri. It only appears to move backwards from Earth. Classical Jyotish treats a vakri planet as strong (it gains chesta bala), with its results turned inward, delayed or revisited, rather than as a time to fear.

The Vedic reading is calmer: it is a review phase for what Mercury signifies, which is speech, writing, contracts, trade, learning, siblings and short travel.
